Welcome to the Rusty Bindings championship race team. We compete against four other singles club teams
in the Singles League, a member of the Bay Area Council of Ski Clubs and Far West Racing Association.
We have held the championship trophy for the past thirteen years. We want to thank you for joining our team.
You are a member of one of the finest ski clubs in the Bay Area. We hope that this will be the greatest
ski season ever for all of you.
The Singles League web site has an invaluable amount of information on it.
Please use it often as it can answer many of your questions. It includes information on the
rules,
race schedule, and
race results.
The Far West Ski Association also has information on racing and domestic and
international ski trips.
Racing is FUN and EXCITING, but it can also be confusing that first day on the hill. The members of our team,
as well as the Race Director are here to help you enjoy your first season as a racer. Here are some tips to
help you be successful and have fun.
All racers register at the beginning of the season by using the online form found at
Singles League Racing. Before racing,
you must present a signed FWRA release form and your fees to the Race Director
-
Sign up early with the Activities Director for a room/bed in one of the fine cabins we rent
in the Truckee area, or obtain your own accommodations.
-
Make sure your ski equipment is ready to go, tuned and waxed. Always remember the basics,
skis-boots-poles-clothes-helmet-plastic (as in credit cards).
-
Transportation: Drive and take up friends or make arrangements to carpool with other RBers. See
the Carpool page for our guidelines for carpooling.
-
Review your Singles League Racing Rules. We will go over the basics at our regular meetings.
-
Ask the Race Director if you have questions, if they don’t know the answer, they will find
out. Remember, we were all new once, there are no dumb questions.
-
Meet at the ski resort’s lodge. Sign in and buy your discounted lift ticket before 8:30 am
Find an experienced RACE BUDDY who will help with the next steps.
-
Pick up your RACE BIB before your first race of the season. This must be worn and visible at all times
when you are on the race course hill. Bib must be returned at the end of the race season.
-
Check the board to see when and where YOUR class is scheduled to race.
-
Warm up, stretch and ski until about 30 minutes before your race.
-
Preview the race course with other experienced racers.
-
We meet at the top of the course 30 minutes before the race time.
-
Stay limber and warm. Don’t stand still, keep moving. Listen for your name and or number and
line up for the start when called. Have fun and finish the race.
Your Race Committee and Race Directors are here to help and guide you, however, you are responsible for
reading and understanding the Singles League Race Rules. Please
see your club Race Director to obtain a complete copy of the rules. Listed are highlights of the rules that racers
forget most frequently. Follow the rules or you may be disqualified!
-
Sign in at the assigned time. You must sign in for yourself, you cannot have someone sign in for
you. Pick-up your bib at the registration before your first race. You will use the same bib all
season, so be sure to bring it with you to each subsequent race. Bibs are to be returned at the end
of the season. Always sign in before 8:30 am. The ski resorts require that a release form be signed
each morning.
-
Find out where and when the races are being held. Changes may be made between races.
-
Preview the course 30 minutes prior to race time. YOU MUST WEAR YOUR BIB SO THAT IT IS SHOWING while
previewing the course.
-
DO NOT SKI THE COURSE until it is your turn to race.
-
DO NOT SHADOW THE COURSE Shadowing the course is when you ski next to it and make turns along the
course as if you were racing.
-
DO NOT SLIP THE COURSE. You may side slip on the side of the course and pull in at critical gates
to see how the next gate is set. YOU CANNOT SKI THE COURSE! You must go slow when previewing the
course.
-
DO NOT SKI THROUGH THE FINISH LINE AT ANY TIME EXCEPT WHEN YOU ARE ACTUALLY RACING. If you do, you
could cause another racer to lose their time and YOU could end-up disqualified. There is no free
skiing allowed anywhere on the race hill at any time!
-
If you fall on the course while racing and still have both skis on, you may continue if you can
make it around the gates correctly.
-
If you lose a ski, CLEAR THE COURSE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. You are disqualified. But, if you lose
your ski within the last TWO gates and you are able to ski through to the finish line on one ski,
your time still qualifies.
-
Make sure when you finish your race that you have a time posted! Also check the DQ list at 3 p.m.
to make sure that your bib number hasn't been posted in error.
-
If you have a problem or complaint, submit the nature of the problem or complaint in writing to
your Race Director before the protest meeting. Protest meetings are held after each race and before
the Awards Ceremony.
-
If you are interfered with you must stop immediately and go to a gate keeper. If you finish the run
your time will stand. If you have a good run going and can safely avoid the interference you have
the option to keep going and have your time stand.
-
If you miss your start time you may run at the end of the class after yours. Under unusual
circumstances (broken chairlift etc.) you may be able to run later, always check with the starter.
-
If you are a first time (ROOKIE) racer make sure you check the strike time for your hill. If you
beat it then you must take a run on the next higher level race course or you won't have an official
time. The strike time will be posted at the bottom of the hill on the results boards.
Have a safe—fun—exciting race season!!
